Grace Remillard

Research Interests

My research experience began as a freshman in the CACT lab. Throughout the past 5 years my research interests have been in engineering acoustics, cyber-physical systems, and engineering education. I am interested in interdisciplinary work.

Projects, Work, and Other Activities

• Master’s Thesis:
  Looking at at the dynamics, specifications, and applications of a tape spring as a deployable structure for space applications. A tape spring is a physical structure that is a thin strip of metal that has a curve, most commonly this is found in a carpenter’s tape measure. The tape spring captures some of the important elements of more complex space structures. It will be considered as a cyber-physical system and the specification and dynamics of the deployable tape spring will be represented using using the systems modeling language (SysML). SysML is a general purpose systems modeling language.
• Teaching Assistant (TA) for EECE.5492 Systems, Modeling and Simulation for Digital Eng. (Spring 2022), EECE.5494 Model-Based Systems Engineering (Fall 2022):
  Aided in the creation of these courses by preparing coursework as well as completing typical TA duties. These courses were taught to personnel at Hanscom Air Force Base as a 4-course accreditation. They are in response to the Department of Defense (DOD) operative moving from paper documentation to online model-based documentation. 
• Innovations in Graduate Education Team Lead (2021-2022):
  Led a small group within an IGE research grant funded by the National Science Foundation (NSA) with the intent to research engineering graduate education. We used a project-based learning approach to learn about Cyber-Physical Systems and created an online course module using EdX on vibesandwaves.org that was taught at the University of the District of Columbia in the Fall of 2022. I managed the project timeline, divided work among teammates, and interfaced with professors to finish the EdX module as well as publish our work in the American Society for Engineering Education. • RAMP Mentor (Summer 2020-2022):
  Worked with incoming engineering students through the RAMP Program. In 2020 I worked with the students on an Arduino-based programming project. In 2021 I helped lead the students through a face-tracking project using Open CV. In 2022 I helped lead a room acoustics project, focusing on standing waves, room constant, and reverberation time. • Summer Intern at Custom MMIC (Now Qorvo) (Summer of 2019):
  I created an algorithm using principal component analysis and developed a platform in MATLAB to simulate its effectiveness with production test data. Worked to implement an algorithm in a real-time production environment on an Exatron Component Handler and successfully removed outliers from the general population of the CMD185P3 low noise amplifiers. Created summary presentations and briefed company executives on algorithm developments and effectiveness on the production test floor. Created software so that algorithm can be deployed for use with other standard products offered by Custom MMIC.
